Currently serving as Associate Professor and Programme Leader for Sunway University’s Bachelor of Contemporary Music (Audio Technology), Dr. Tom brings a unique blend of performance experience and pedagogical expertise to his role. A seasoned drummer, his musical background encompasses heavy metal, classical, and a deep specialization in jazz performance and composition. Tom’s performance career includes international and national tours with the acclaimed Strike Percussion (NZ), Desbot (NZ), Dark Matter and numerous other engagements as a professional session drummer.

Beyond performance and composition, Tom’s research practice is centered on the intersection of technology and education. He actively investigates the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing pedagogical methods and aims to develop models that effectively integrate AI tools with traditional, face-to-face teaching. This work is driven by a passion for creating innovative learning environments that empower both educators and students. His research explores how technology can be used to augment the learning process, providing personalized support and dynamic resources while preserving the crucial human element of mentorship and direct instruction.
